This result means everything to us, says Juiblant Naylor

SCOTT Naylor hailed his Oldham heroes as the Roughyeds celebrated arguably their greatest day since reforming in 1997, knocking Hull KR out of the Challenge Cup.

A 36-22 success shocked few of the 3,000 spectators at the Lightstream Stadium as Naylor’s men denied their top-flight opponents - and last year’s beaten finalists - progression with a spirited display.

Two tries from Richard Lepori - his last at the death - sparked jubilant celebrations with the travelling contingent of Oldham supporters, making the arduous journey across the M62 to east Hull.

For Naylor, he wants his player to relish the moment, and would fancy another scalp in the sixth round when the draw is made on Thursday evening.

“For me as a coach, that is as good as it gets. That’s one of, if not the biggest performance we’ve put in and the lads deserve everything,” said the two-time Cup winner in his Bradford Bulls playing days.

“The lads were exhausted but I don’t think it matters when we won. It’s days like these why we all are involved in rugby league.

“It’s well known that we’re not a wealthy club and don’t have the money, but we have a lot of desire and that is getting us a long way.

“The game is tough. Your career doesn’t last long enough and days like this are where the lads have got to make the most of it.”

“Who has the biggest crowds, Wigan away? Look, for us, what will be will be but it will be a big day for the club. The next round is again about us going for a dig. Whether it’s at Wigan or a Championship club.”
