Death of Oldham legend

ALAN Davies, one of Oldham RL’s all-time greats and a player widely regarded as one of the finest centres ever to have played the game, has died aged 75 in hospital in Blackburn. He was suffering from emphysema.

Davies spent 11 years at the Oldham club during the glory years of the 1950s, making 391 appearances and holds the record as the club’s all-time record try scorer.

He played 20 times for Great Britain, including the tour to Australia in 1958, and was an original member of the Oldham RLFC Hall of Fame.
