Top-class show from Harriers' star pupils

OLDHAM and Royton Harriers athletes represented their schools with pride at the Greater Manchester Schools Track and Field Championships at Longford Park, Stretford.

Connor McHugh produced a great throw for a new personal best and victory in the intermediate boys' hammer with 31.24 metres.

Reality Osuoha (pictured), who has been in excellent form of late, won the senior boys' 100m in 11.0 seconds - also a new best - while Atti Mamman clinched the inter-boys' 400m in 53.1s.

Harry Collier won the inter-boys' 1500m in 4:17.2 and Sophie Hall bagged first place in the the inter-girls 300m hurdles in 46.4s.

There were many more excellent performances from Harriers' members.

Lorna-Jo Holt took the bronze in the inter-girls' hammer (28.78m) as well as finishing fourth in the high jump with 1.30m.

There was also a bronze medal for Rebecca Hall in the inter-girls' shot put with 9.36m.

Evans Bosiako ran 12.1s for the 100m, Ehimen Ehis stopped the clock at 24.4s in the 200m, Zack Eckersley ran the 100m in 12.6s and Nathan Sykes jumped to 5.34m in the long jump.

At the North of England Championships for under-20s and seniors, Osuoha ran a new personal best in his 200m heat of 21.86s to reach the final, where he then ran another best time of 21.77s to claim an excellent silver medal.

GOOD DAY

Ryan Hall had a good day, with 11.19s in the 100m and 22.6s in the 200m.

Jason Hoyle set a new best in the 200m of 21.61s and Michael Mannings ran an excellent 16:18.75 in the men's 5,000m.

The Bolton Hill Marathon was run in atrocious conditions, but it did not deter Sara Bott and Angie Hart, who ran together to finish in 5:13:37 over the tough, hilly course.

At the recent Littleborough 5k race, Michael Mannings was a superb second in 16:34, followed by Ian Jackson (18:40), Paul Bartholomew (21:12), Maria Wall (21:59), Angie Hart (21:59), Darren Mannings (23:03), Lauren Bartholomew (23:52), Megan Bartholomew (24:03), Jake Holt (24:49), Astacia Mannings (24:53) and Jake Jackson (25:48).

The Harriers' women won the team prize for their category.

At the Chadderton Hall parkrun, Ian Jackson was third in 20:40, with Paul Bartholomew running 22:54 for a new course best.

Megan Barholomew also posted a course best as she was first woman in 25.22, followed by her sister Lauren in second and another course best of 26:08.

Mark Oliver made it four course bests, finishing in 28:13. Jake Jackson ran 30:53, with Helen Grochowina crossing the line in 31:11.

Astacia Mannings ran the Oldham parkrun in 27:29, followed by Dave Cooper in 30:38.

And at Stamford Park, John Felton came home in 23:39, with Anne-Marie Lord (24:16) and Julie Felton (29:29) in behind.
