YOUTH CRICKET: GLODWICK One produced the shock of the season as they overcame previously-unbeaten Shaw in the Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League.

It means that tomorrow’s showdown between Royton One and Shaw at Failsworth Sports Centre will decide the destination of the title.

Taking first knock, Glodwick One made 235 without loss, thanks to 10 from Cameron Heatley.

The table-toppers were hot favourites at this stage, but they hadn’t reckoned on the Warren Lane bowlers.

Josh Brown, with two for nine, and Joe Hulme’s three for six sent shockwaves through the Shaw batting line-up, who crumbled to 213 for seven.

Royton One, inspired by Chandler Akroyd’s hat-trick, had already kept up the pressure on Shaw with an 11-run defeat of Glodwick Two.

Glodwick Two, with Tyrell Glasgow (15) and Tayab Ali (14) among the runs, reached 224 for six.

Akroyd finished with figures of four for six, while Christian Thickett claimed the other two wickets to fall.

In reply, steady batting from Royton One saw them reach 235 for three.

Saddleworth One blew away Uppermill by 119 runs.

Uppermill never got to grips with the bowling as William Wright (four), Tom Hutchinson (three), William Kay (two) and Flynn Bradley made their mark.

Of the Saddleworth bowlers, only Arron Scholes failed to take a wicket, but he did claim a spectacular catch and score 15 runs in a total of 276 for three. Wright blasted 22.

The only way Woodhouses can be crowned champions is if they win their final match and the Shaw versus Royton One clash ends in a tie. Then total runs scored in the series comes into play.

Woodhouses amassed 272 for two against Austerlands (236), who lost eight wickets.

Heyside, including a fine 27 from Lewis Bardsley out of a total of 262 for six, recorded a comfortable 56-run victory over Royton Two.

Six wickets fell in the reply of 207 for six, with Euan Rigby (two), Corey Pearson (two), Corey Heaton and Lewis Bardsley doing the damage.

Glodwick Alt are leaving it late to secure their first win of the season.

They made 223 for six compared to Saddleworth Two’s 259 for two.

Glodwick wrap up their campaign against Uppermill, who are also looking to break their duck.
