PUPILS from North Chadderton School are counting down to a big day out after winning the Oldham College ‘World Cup’ final.

Kieran McGinnity’s last-gasp try clinched a thrilling 16-14 win over their Saddleworth counterparts and with it 15 tickets for his team to watch the Rugby League World Cup final at Old Trafford on Saturday, November 30.

It was the skipper’s second try of the afternoon after Joe Hartley’s superb length-of-the-field effort had put North Chadderton on the board.

Aaron Bishop also kicked two goals in the match at Newman College.

Saddleworth, favourites to win the competition, also touched down on three occasions through Harry Warhurst, Josh Fish and Sammy Ireland. Billy Barnes added a conversion.

The competition was organised by Steve Molloy and Pete Scrivens, from the Oldham College Rugby League Academy.

As runners-up, Saddleworth have been handed 15 tickets for England’s last-eight tie against France at Wigan’s DW Stadium on Saturday night.
