BASKETBALL:

SADDLEWORTH School’s Year 10-11 Oldham champions were in great form when they took on their rivals from the Trinity College in Manchester in the English Schools’ Cup, northern section.

Saddleworth triumphed 94-49, as Allistair Lloyd top-scored with 41-point haul. The local team is currently third in its tough qualifying section.

Saddleworth, whose teams are town champions at Years Seven through to 10-11, will represent Oldham at the Great Manchester Basketball Championships at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, a Year Nine tournament took place at the Oldham Ball Hall, with seven school teams competing.

Saddleworth beat Failsworth in the final, while beaten semi-finallists were Hulme and Waterhead.

The winners will now go through to represent Oldham at the Great Manchester Championships.
