LET’S GO . . . competitors in the Years Three/Four race at the Hathershaw Sports Cluster Cross-Country Championships make a clean break from the start.
RUNNING:
ALEXANDRA Park was awash with mud-splattered young athletes after the Hathershaw Sports Cluster Schools Cross-Country Championships.
More than 400 pupils gathered at the start line for a series of races which tested the staying power of those competing.
St Martin’s emerged with the overall title for the fifth year running. Lorna Phillips, assistant principal at Hathershaw, said: “When this event started 15 years ago, we had four schools taking part. We are now up to 18. It’s a big mix of children and it’s fantastic to see them all.
Hathershaw co-ordinates 17 different sports, from basketball to sports hall athletics, for primary school age children, with two events taking place every week in the school year.
