HULME Grammar School pupil Olivia Green has a busy spring ahead of her.

Aa well as GCSE coursework the teenager will be negotiating two international pentathlon competitions and an Easter training camp in Germany.

At 15, Olivia is third in Great Britain’s under-19s modern pentathlon ranks. At her current age she competes in four events - swimming, fencing and a combined run and pistol shoot. At 18 she will graduate to the full pentathlon, which adds riding - aleady one of her skills.

For now Olivia is focused on the GB Youth International event in Solihull on March 14-15. This will be followed by an international competition in Barcelona in April.

Olivia shows trains for 11 hours from Monday-Thursday, has Friday off and returns to training at weekends.

Her father said: “Olivia has always been a great runner for her club, Sale Harriers. She fences at Clitheroe Fencing Club and Mark Lord oversees her swimming at Oldham Aquatics.

Olivia practises with laser and pellet guns at the family home in Lydgate.

With an eye fixed on a senior pentathlon career, Olivia is keen not to neglect her riding skills.

Chris added: “She attends two horse jumping sessions each month; one in Gloucestershire and the other in East Yorkshire.

While Rio de Janeiro next year will come too soon for Olivia, she has the talent to fence, swim, ride, shoot and run her way to Tokyo in 2020.
