OLDHAM College pupils won a contest to devise an advertising campaign for a music TV company.

Holly Simkins, Gabrielle Lopez, Emily Baynham, Daniel Brocklehurst and Ricardo Oliviera were one of only two groups of chosen to pitch their ideas to The Box Plus Network.

And the digital and creative students beat their rivals from Lambeth College, London.

The final was the culmination of a competition organised by the Ideas Foundation, which aims to inspire creativity in young people by giving them the chance to work on real business mproblems with leading companies. Students had to devise an advertising campaign to attract new views to The Box Plus Network's seven channels which include 4Music, Kiss, Magic, and Kerrang!.

Managing director Melissa Fretwell, said: "The Oldham College students had an exciting and coherent campaign idea that responded to the brief in full and explained the offer of the network in a fun, playful tone.

"They were the only group who considered branding in great detail by mocking up the Box Bright logo and explaining its place in the network of brands. Including thoughts around shot choices also really impressed the judges."

Sarah Webb, Oldham College's deputy head of digital and creative, added "Our students displayed great creativity as well as well as strong teamwork and presentation skills to win."

Deborah Davidson, Northwest programme manager for the Ideas Foundation said: "It's really gratifying to see the value the students gained from this experience.

"The pitch mirrored what they can expect in the creative sector."
