£6m spent, and we’re made up

STUDENTS have moved into a new £6 million building at Oldham College — and it’s a beauty!
The three-storey building on the Rochdale Road campus is home to around 400 hairdressing, beauty, nail technology and media makeup students.
The ground floor has the commercial Aspire hair and beauty salons, which offer discounted treatments to the public. Facilities include a spa, spray tanning booth, sauna, jacuzzi and nail room.
The building also has a media make-up salon with its own photography studio, shower and walk-in storage for costumes and props. The second and third floors are dedicated to training salons and classrooms. English and maths courses will also be based in the building.
Diane Howard, head of the college’s retail and commercial faculty, said: “It’s so exciting to see this amazing new facility. The building is as modern as you can get, real state of the art. The facilities are as good as the students will find in industry — in some cases better.”
The development, which has replaced the former 1960s tower block, is the last of three new buildings opened by the college in recent months. The Duke of Gloucester opened a £7 million learning centre in April, followed by the £9 million digital and creative centre.
