Students kitted out for Ghana

Oldham Hulme Grammar School students, who are heading to Ghana in July, with donated football shirts

Sports kits of all kinds is needed for a charity trip to Ghana by Oldham Hulme Grammar School students.

Over 20 pupils aged 15-18, are heading to their partner school, Kwahu-Tafo SDA Junior High School in the West African country, on July 5 and hope to take supplied and as much old sports kit with them as possible. Football shirts from previous seasons have been donated by the Manchester United Foundation, and pupils have chipped in their own old kit.

Hulme’s prep school pupils are also helping out by collecting lightweight school supplies, such as colouring pencils, for the three-week African adventure.

Deputy principal John Dalziel said the group will help to do repairs to the African school and give English lessons to the four to 18-year-olds.

He said: “We’re appealing for old sports kits as they are lightweight and easy to carry, but we are also accepting financial donations that we can send directly to the school. The children at the school in Ghana really have very little.”
