A baker is looking to cream the competition to become National Entrepreneur of the Year.

Aspiring entrepreneur Daniel Arundel from Oldham is applying for a chance to pitch his business ideas to one of the stars of the hit BBC show “Dragons’ Den”, Peter Jones.

As a student at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at Oldham College, Daniel’s cake business started following a conversation with Shazia Afzal, Oldham College’s business enterprise and career academies manager, when he mentioned an interest in his mum’s catering business.

He turned a passion for baking into a business and founded the Arundel Bakery in 2012 when he was 16 and studying enterprise and entrepreneurship at Oldham College.

He received a grant from the Oldham Business Leadership Group for £3,000 to buy equipment and was backed by support from friends and family.

he was also nominated for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year title at the One Oldham Business awards .

Shazia said: “I can’t recommend Daniel highly enough for the award of National Entrepreneur of the Year. Daniel’s business idea has grown from strength to strength, as has his professional and business skill set.

“We really hope he gets through to the final to pitch to Peter Jones and a panel of businesses to showcase his incredible talent.”

Daniel said: “College has made me a better person so I’ve learned now to take every opportunity as it comes. Now I’ve come this far, I thought I may as well try and go all the way.”

Six finalists will be selected from further education colleges across the UK to pitch their proposals at Jones’s central offices in Buckinghamshire. The overall winner will be announced in London in July and will receive an investment in their company of up to £5,000.
