Diana Award honour for students

STUDENTS from St Damian’s RC Science College have been bestowed an accolade created in memory of Princess Diana.

The school’s liturgy group was honoured with the Diana Award which was set up to mirror her belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.

Pupils from the Lees Road, Ashton, school received the award for being active campaigners in their local community and promoting anti-bullying awareness.

They were also praised for their fund-raising for close-to-home charities and helping out where they can in the local community.

The group spend many dinner times and their own time leading the liturgical and charitable life of the school and are described as “excellent role models in the faith and are an inspiration to others”.

They’ve raised thousands of pounds for good causes, raised awareness of the suffering of others and their liturgical duties include assisting in the preparation of every school mass.

Head teacher Sheldon Logue described them as “shining ambassadors” for the school.

“The Diana Award will encouraged them to continue their fantastic campaigning and will hopefully inspire others to take a stand against bullying.

Tessy Ojo, CEO of the Diana Award, said: “The Diana Award is proud to recognise anti-bullying ambassadors, like the liturgy group who have the confidence and courage to stand up for what they believe.”

Once award recipients receive the award they join the Diana Network programme, which opens doors to work experience, volunteering and campaigning while training young people in employability and social action skills.
