A FORMER Hulme Grammar School pupil is preparing to release her latest pop single.

“Rivers Run” by 19-year-old Naomi Higginson, is the first single from her new album and will be released on www.youtube.com/NaomiMusicUK on September 25. Naomi will also perform at the Revolution bar in Manchester on that day in “Oxjam:, Oxfam’s month-long music festival.

Naomi hit the headlines in 2012 when she opened her exam results live on breakfast TV.

The singer-songwriter composed her first single, “With You”, in 30 minutes as part of her music GCSE and it helped her to get an A grade and impress talent scouts online.

“I love singing, playing guitar, piano, ukulele, but my favourite thing is to write songs,” said Naomi, whose song “Start Again” was used in an advertising campaign by phone company TalkTalk

“I’ve been writing for years and years. I used to just fire them off on spec to people I found on Google, but when I was about 15 I wrote a song for my coursework at school.

“I sent it off as usual on a whim to various people, but this time it got picked up and went huge really quickly, to the extent I ended up opening my GCSE results live on ‘Daybreak’. From there on in, people have been paying attention.”
