IN our first edition of The Knowledge for 2016 we peer into Google's latest service - Google Goggles!
Well, Google Expeditions actually, a 3D device that in combination with the search giant's Google Cardboard viewer allows schools to visit far off places in 3D detail - even the moon.
Children at Hulme Prep were among those at three Oldham schools invited to try out the distance-viewing device, which uses a cardboard box, special lenses and a smartphone to serve movies of distant countries as if you are actually there.
But that's just one story among many in The Knowledge January 2016. We read some 100-word horror tales dreamed up for a new book by pupils at Royton and Crompton School, check out Waterhead Academy's amazing TV studio, ask three recently-appointed head teachers about what their job involves, and find one school with a "Wall of Famous" - inspirational messages for pupils from well-known celebrities.
The Knowledge also examines Crompton House school's strong arts traditions in drama and music, Oldham College's latest tech gadget for keeping students informed, and catches up with Dave Robinson, whose contacts in the film world helped some students at University Campus Oldham to contribute to a Hollywood movie!
You can read many more fascinating stories from Oldham schools free and in full online by clicking on the eChron edition below or the "echron" tab above and selecting "The Knowledge".
