MP Debbie Abrahams
Oldham MP Debbie Abrahams was so impressed by the questions posed by primary pupils that she has invited them to attend a commission.
The MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth visited St Anne’s RC primary school in Greenacres to meet the children and discuss fairness.
She was asked what inspired her to b e a politician and even if she liked Jeremy Corbyn!. The children also asked about the refugee crisis and told Mrs Abrahams about the discussions they have had in class.
“The pupils were very impressive and their teachers and parents must be very proud of them,” said Debbie.
“I was so impressed that I’ve invited the school to send representatives to our final public Oldham Fairness Commission session at Mahdlo. We need young people to be engaged with politics.”
Headteacher Mary Garvey said: “I was delighted to welcome our MP. Mrs Abrahams said she was impressed with the questions and explained to them the range of her duties and the democratic process in Parliament. The children recognised that we use a similar process to elect our school council.”
