Oldham Council is to put £1 million into improving education in the borough. following recommendations of the independent Oldham Education and Skills Commission.
The group published its findings on January 15 after an 18-month review led by former education secretary Estelle Morris.
The report’s 19 recommendations set out a vision for Oldham for a self-improving system in which schools, colleges and interested parties work as partners to drive up standards across the board.
The £1 million will be allocated over four financial years and used to provide support and resources to make progress on the recommendations — including the identification of a partnership body that can manage the implementation of an action plan.
A sum of £250,000 is being allocated immediately to help schools begin working towards the introduction of the new model for the start of the new 2016/7 academic year in September.
