LEARNING about the customs and culture of countries such as Brazil, Pakistan, the Czech Republic and South Africa was how pupils at Hathershaw College celebrated International Diversity Week.
The packed week of activities included learning a Brazilian tribal dance, meditation, traditional South African cooking, textile dying and learning about the Czech Republic’s wicker celebrations.
The 210 Year 7 pupils involved also learned five phrases from one another as the school has a rich tradition of diversity with English pupils working alongside others from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Poland and Romania.
Haffsah Nazir, lead teacher for GCSE history and citizenship, who organised the activities, said: “It was an exciting project and a really good opportunity for them to embrace each other’s differences. They absolutely loved getting involved.”
