Heyside 6, Hollinwood 0

HEYSIDE romped to victory against a below-par Hollinwood side in Division One of the Manchester League at Crompton House School 3G.

In the process, both sides swapped places in the league standings, with Heyside now in third place and Hollinwood dropping down to seventh.

Unforeseen circumstances meant that Hollinwood's pre-match preparations were severely cut short, and on a raw afternoon in High Crompton, the team suffered a major blow just before kick-off when leading goalscorer Greg Boyunga tore a calf muscle in the warm-up.

Heyside didn't have any such problems and maybe it was their own preparation which enabled them to take the lead inside three minutes when the outstanding Josh Briddon rose the highest to power home a header following Daniel Dunn's flag-kick.

Hollinwood were literally caught cold.

Hollinwood secretary Ken Evans said: "I can't say for sure if Greg's injury was anything to do with the preparation, but we were beaten by the better side in the end. We never really looked like scoring."

Heyside were three goals to the good by that time thanks to goals from Danny Pauley and the impressive Dunn and could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty - Jordan Hindley the culprit from twelve yards out.

Defender Briddon made it 4-0 nine minutes after the break with a carbon-copy of his first effort - Dunn again the provider from the corner flag.

James Leonard and substitute Mark Hopwood completed the Heyside scoring to rub salt into Hollinwood's already substantial wounds.

Heyside manager Geoff Howard said: "It was an easy victory for us and I had said to the lads to get amongst them from the off.

"As newcomers to this league you have to find where you are, but I definitely think we are a top six side.

"Promotion is a strong possibility and I don't mind talking about it."
