ROYTON Town secured a 1-0 Manchester League Premier Division victory against AFC Monton in what was an ill-tempered game at Oldham Academy North.

Town's influential midfielder Craig Schumann suffered a broken jaw during the game, and will require dental treatment.

The incident started in the 30th minute with an initial challenge by a Monton player on Schumann, with players from both sides then becoming involved in pushing and shoving one other.

It is alleged that Schumann was struck in the face. During the aftermath, two Monton players were sent off, along with Town's Carl Caffrey.

Town secretary Phil Dean said: "The club does not want to make a comment on this matter until all parties have been consulted."

Craig Wilkinson bagged the winner for Town.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Springhead slipped up with a 3-1 home defeat by Hindsford, while Avro pocketed a 1-0 win against visiting Old Alts.

Heyside continued their good run of form in Division One with a fine 4-0 home win against Chapel Town, one which keeps them three points clear at the top of the division.

Top scorer Mark Hopwood struck the crossbar early on, but the breakthrough didn't come until the half-hour mark.

A Daniel Dunn corner was flicked on at the near post by Lyle Bogle, defender Gary Schofield struck the ball towards goal and as a defender attempted to stop it on the line, Gary Molyneux made sure as he prodded it over on the line. Johnny Pauley made it 2-0 shortly after half-time.

Five minutes later the same player made it three. Sub Jordan Hindley passed to the onrushing Pauley, and he drove past the visiting defence before hammering home.

With Heyside now playing some super fast tempo football, top scorer Hopwood got in on the act as he finished comfortably following a Pauley through-ball.

The last 15 saw Heyside lay siege to a bewildered Chapel Town, but couldn't add to the tally.

Heyside boss Geoff Howard said: "We started poorly, but then were superb for 60 minutes. Some of our football was great."

Hollinwood defeated Boothstown 4-0 as Aleem Salim, Greg Boyunga, Yannick Libokoudah and Abraham Girmay struck.

Chadderton's reserves lost 3-1 at Pennington.
