Bulldogs show more bite

FITTON Hill Bulldogs produced the perfect response to the previous week's loss by overcoming a strong Chester Gladiators side 32-16 in Division Three of the North-West Men's League.

Bulldogs hit the ground running, tearing into the visitors.

Coach Warren Druggitt, a former player at Waterhead, has worked hard on players' fitness over the winter months and it has paid off with levels not seen for a long time.

The first half was dominated by Fitton Hill. Anthony Hilton broke the deadlock and he went on to add two more before the break.

Steve Perry and Warren Druggitt also dived in, while Mark Ward kicked one conversion.

The Gladiators woke up from their slumbers in the second half and fought back bravely with the opening try and conversion.

Fitton Hill's reply was immediate with a fabulous try by Paul Turner.

A further Chester touch down was again quickly followed by a fantastic run and try by Lewis Fitton.

Chester, who put in a full shift all afternoon, had the last say, but there was denying a re-invigorated Bulldogs side. Sam Lambert was the man-of-the-match.

It was a good day for local teams as Oldham St Anne's 'A' defeated Crosfields 'A' 18-14 in Division Three and Saddleworth Rangers 'A' swept aside Aspull New Springs 56-18 in Division Five.
