WATERHEAD Warriors responded to an early setback in impressive fashion to see off Barrow Island 44-24 at Peach Road in NCL Division Three, earning a first victory in seven outings in the process.

The visitors took the lead through Brandon Corrie, with Matt Sayle converting for the first of his four successes.

The Warriors responded well though and had opened up an 18-6 lead by the time the team switched ends. Terry Fitzgerald, Mark Maher and Jack Pemberton all score tries, with Mayall converting all three.

In the second half, the hosts added to their lead through efforts from Sean Garrett, Matthew Fogarty, Declan Slicker, Luke De Feu and Mayall.

Slicker also got one conversion, Mayall ending up with a 14-point half, before Sayle and Joe Spenceley (two) reduced the arrears in the final quarter.

In Division Two, Saddleworth Rangers were well-beaten at east Leeds, losing 40-14 despite an early Adam Jeffries try.

Ryan Woofitt and Luke Tomlinson both scored two tries and there were scores for James Forsell, Jordan Normington and Jacob Walton. Tom Sheldrake kicked six goals.

For Rangers, Michael Coates added a single conversion to tries from Jack Holden and Sam Hart in response.
