A giant leap for Sophie

SOPHIE Hall set a new personal best in the high jump at the latest round of the Youth Development League.

Competing in the under-17s section, the Oldham and Royton Harrier cleared 1.61 metres to clinch victory.

The teenager made it a double at the Woodbank Park venue in Stockport with victory in the 300m hurdles in an excellent 46.5 seconds.

Harriers also tasted success through Reality Osouha in the under-20 men's 200m 'A' race - he recorded 22.2s - and Ehmin Ehis won the 'B' race in 24.8s for a clean sweep.

In the under-17s 1500m steeplechase, Jake Holt claimed first place in five minutes, 31 minutes and nine seconds, while his sister Lorna-Jo won the hammer with a throw of 30.64m.

Connor McHugh also won the hammer, throwing to 29.06m.

For the under-20s Osouha ran the 100m in 11.1s, while Jordan Brogan stopped the clock in 2:17.4 for the 800m.

Meanwhile, at the Chadderton Hall parkrun, Ian Jackson crossed the line in second place in 20:57, followed by Nicky Ford (30:35) and Jake Jackson (31:19).

Alexandra Park saw Lauren Charnock come home in 28:17, while Paul Bartholomew ran well in 21:18 at Heaton Park, with Amy Hallet (24:02) in behind.

Five runners went to Rochdale to try the tough Watergrove parkrun, with Maria Wall claiming runners-up spot in the women's race in 24:25.

Angie Hart (25:00), Sara Bott (28:38), Naomi Coulter (42:56) and Vicky Corrigan (45:09) also represented Harriers, while Owen Flage ran the Newport parkrun in 19:29.

Anne-Marie Lord teamed up with Allan Parkin to run the Two Saints Way over two days.

The route travelled between the cathedral cities of Chester and Lichfield. With 57 miles covered on the first day, the second was a touch easier with "just" 42 miles for a great run!
