Moorside bid for place in last eight

Date published: 29 June 2017

MOORSIDE can seal a place in the last eight of the Tom Hardman Twenty20 Cup tomorrow.

Victory at Stayley and Monton and Weaste losing to Group 'A' leaders Norden would clinch a quarter-final berth for Rick Harrington's men with one round of matches to go.

Peter Skuse's Stayley must win to keep alive their hopes of progressing. Heyside and Micklehurst cannot qualify.

Royton are the only team in Group 'B' who boast a 100-per-cent record after three games.

They head to fellow Wood Cup semi-finalists Crompton, who need victories in their remaining two matches to stand any chance of going through.

Second-in-the-group Glodwick welcome Ashton, while Hollinwood go to Milnrow, who are without a point.

With maximum points, Littleborough and Walsden are in prime position to reach the last eight from Group 'C'.

Middleton, who are bound to be smarting from defeat to Royton in the Wood Cup last weekend, stand in the way of Boro and a fourth straight win in the competition's group stages.

As for Walsden, they entertain a Shaw team slipping out of contention for Championship honours.

There is everything to play for in Group 'D'.

Greenfield and Austerlands hold sway, two points ahead of Rochdale and Uppermill, with Oldham in fifth still not out of the running.

Friarmere are bottom after three defeats.

Greenfield maintained their unbeaten record at Uppermill - in unusual circumstances.

Chris Gill's men, with the last pair at the crease, required nine runs from the final over to overhaul the home side's all out total of 124.

However, the target was reduced to three after an umpire informed the scorers that Uppermill had been penalised six runs - they were added to Greenfield's score - for a slow over-rate.

Bradley Woolley and Adam Robinson got the runs with two balls to spare.
