HE may be in his 84th year, but Cec Wright continues to strike fear in opposition batsmen.

With a will to win as strong as ever, Uppermill ace Cec ran through Shaw's batting line-up for remarkable figures of seven for 27.

It was an exhilarating performance from the octogenarian.

Uppermill were defending just 103 in the Pennine Cricket League second XI fixture at Leefields.

The odds were stacked against the hosts - but determined Cec rose to the challenge.

Opening the bowling, he first had Richard Doherty caught by Jake Hill, before ripping out the middle order.

Shabbir Khan, Cameron Sinclair, George Russell, Ben Pilling and Adam Ford all fell victim to the Cec's efforts.

He made it seven for the afternoon when No.11 Ben Swann was caught by Ben Willis, leaving Uppermill winners by 49 runs.

Cec bowled 11.3 overs, of which three were maidens.

"LUCK"

Typical Cec, he played down his exertions.

"Yes, it wasn't too bad," he said.

"I had a bit of luck and we had good players.

"I've taken three or four wickets in games this season, but never seven, so I enjoyed it."

A keen crown green bowler for Royton Park - he entered this year's Green Final Bowling Handicap - Cec will be able to put his feet up this weekend as Uppermill have no game due to them being out of both second XI cups.

He is sure to fired up, then, when the league gets back under way with a home game against Heyside on Saturday week.
