DEFENDER George Edmundson puts bat to ball after opening the batting for Athletic
ATHLETIC swapped shin pads for cricket pads as they helped celebrate Shaw CC's 120th anniversary year.
The Twenty20 match at Holebottom Clough saw boss John Sheridan, assistant manager Tommy Wright, players George Edmundson, Jamie Stott, Darius Osei, and Mason Fawns, chief executive Mark Moisley and a sprinkling of backroom staff line up for Athletic.
Sheridan, Edmundson, Wright and Moisley were among the runs in a total of 114 in their 20 overs, against a Shaw XI featuring a mixture of senior and junior players.
Edmundson was denied a hat-trick when it Athletic's turn to bowl, physio Stuart Irwin clutched two decent catches and Sheridan, fielding close in, dismissed Shaw first-team captain Steve Whiston with a one-handed diving effort.
Sheridan, though, was not too happy when Osei spilled a simple chance off his very first ball!
The match went right down to the wire with Shaw emerging victorious by one-wicket.
Shaw, who play in the Pennine Cricket League, are holding a sell-out anniversary dinner at the Oldham Events Centre on Friday, August 4.
The guest speaker is former England and Middlesex spinner Phil Tufnell.
