CHADDERTON FC started their new Vodkat North-West Counties League division one season with a 5-2 defeat at home to Stone Dominoes — but Oldham Town's match at Holker Old Boys in Cumbria was postponed an hour before kick-off.
Manager Paul Buckley was not too despondent after watching his side slip to an opening-day loss.
Two goals adrift at half-time, Paul Ashton headed a goal back for Chadderton from a Glyn Billington cross.
Billington missed a penalty moments later after Chris Carruthers was brought down, before Dominoes made most of their good fortune to take the game away from the home side.
Chris Pauley added a second Chadderton consolation goal late on, a superb curling effort from outside of the penalty area.
Buckley takes his team Leek CSOB on tomorrow night, with Micky Green and Andrew Pheby available for selection after missing Saturday, but Gareth Morris is missing because of work commitments.
o TOWN had stopped north of Carnforth when they got the call that their game at Holker OB, near Barrow-in-Furness, was off because of a waterlogged pitch.
They were told the fixture was in doubt just after lunchtime, but the home side were unable to find a local referee to make an early pitch inspection. Instead they waited for the match-day official to make the decision.
Fingers crossed, Town will play their first game of the season at home to Padiham tomorrow night.
