Meredith stars in Werneth success

WERNETH A won 6-4 at Honeywell A in the Oldham Table Tennis League first division, Darryl Meredith being the star of the show with three straight game wins, supported by Pete Morris with two.

Gary Newton won two for the home side with Simon Hardwick and Dave Buckley one each.

Meanwhile, Honeywell’s B team beat Hyde A by the same scoreline. The Honeywell trio of Ken Hayes, Steve Barber and Tommy Ryan all won two each with Ken Ward replying likewise for Hyde.

Tom Lang was undefeated in BAE A’s 8-2 win at Rosehill, supported by Tony Smith and Mark Aspden. In consolation, Richard Sarre had two good wins for Rosehill.

Werneth B went down 7-3 at home to Hollinwood A for, whom Tristran Swann was undefeated, while Saddleworth prevailed 6-4 against Hollinwood B. Ian Mclean won three and Duncan Hadfield two for the home side, with Dave Cheetham replying with two.

Grotton A and reigning champions Glodwick both had 10-0 wins over Werneth C and BAE B respectively.

Hollinwood E went down 8-2 at home to Honeywell C in the second division, with Barrie Royle scoring a maximum for the visitors.

Another treble for Glenn Chadwick was the highlight of Pennine’s 7-3 win at Hollinwood C. He was supported by two from Steve Mather.

Hollinwood’s D team won 8-2 at Honeywell D with trebles for Andy McNabb and Andy Evans and two from John Foster.

Two good wins for Howard Meadham were in vain as his Uppermill B team went down 7-3 in the third division at Coldhurst B. Darren Brown conjured up a maximum for the home side.

A good all-round performance from Unison C earned their 6-4 win at a fast-improving St Saviour’s A team. Jim Bollard, Alan Melzter and Frank Sheldon all won two each with Alex Reilly being the Saints best player in winning two.

There was another hard-fought draw at Deaf Club where the A team lost their 100-per-cent record against Unison B. Alan Auxilly starred with three for the visitors.

There was a tremendous team performance from Saddleworth B in whitewashing Coldhurst D 10-0 thanks to Tony Prescott, Alex Griffiths and Peter Skuse.

In the fourth division, Dean Allman gained bragging rights in the Allman household as he beat both son and daughter, Callum and Paige, in Our Lady’s A 9-1 win over their C team. Pete Chappell was also undefeated for the A team, while Callum supplied the C team’s only point.

The youngsters of St Saviours B team were good value for their 6-4 win at home to Deaf Club C despite Ron Tench winning three for the visitors. Saints Tom Dalton, Josh Poole and Mike Pellowe all won two.

Deaf Club B lost their top spot despite winning 8-2 at Werneth G. There were three wins for Mike Briggs.

Werneth E leapfrogged Deaf B to top spot with a 10-0 at Counthill thanks to Joe Taylor, Dave Holme and the evergreen Phil Coomb.
