AFTER a difficult start to the season, Uppermill are now going great guns in division one of the Huddersfield and District League.

Paul Waterhouse’s side made it three wins on the trot with a thrilling 4-3 defeat of Britannia Sports.

Dave Taylor was the hero, notching a hat-trick, which included a last-gasp winner from the penalty spot as his side climbed up to mid-table.

Uppermill had to come from behind on two occasions to draw level — Taylor got both goals from long range — and they were also grateful to ’keeper Alan Scorer for saving a penalty.

Adam Wilson put the visitors in front for the first time but, with five minutes remaining, Britannia drew level.

However, Uppermill had the last laugh as Taylor converted a spot-kick after a handball.

Heyside kept up their pursuit of Shelley at the top of division four with a resounding 10-2 victory at FC Railway.

They recovered from the setback of conceding an early goal to lead 4-1 at the break, and continued to dominate in the second half, scoring six more times before their opponents replied in the final minute.

On target were Carl Winstanley (two), Nick Campbell (two), Danny Cashin (two), Ryan Barnes, Chris Raynor and Scott Rowbottom.

Meanwhile Diggle remain top of reserve division one despite losing their 100-per-cent record.

They were beaten 3-2 by Newsome WMC, and Uppermill’s second string went down 4-3 to Britannia Sports. Markus Uhlig, Chris Neild and Ryan Hughes scored for ’Mill.

Heyside got back on track in reserve division two with a 2-1 win against Meltham Athletic ‘A’.

Mark Fillingham, with a long-range strike, and a Luke Hancock effort put the home side in command at the interval, but they had to endure a few anxious moments late on after Meltham pulled one back.

Diggle ‘A’ were held to a 2-2 draw by Honley, but Uppermill ‘A’ were beaten 2-0 by Upperthong.

In the Works League, two goals from John Lees were in vain as Uppermill the thirds succumbed 3-2 against Aimbry, but Paul Figg, Andy Thorpe (two), Jeff Grace, Michael Taylor and Si Poulter scored for the fifths in 6-5 win over Coach and Horses.
