TABLE TENNIS:

NEWLY-FORMED Counthill TCC are off the mark in division four after a 7-3 victory over Werneth ‘F’.

Youngsters Adam Newton, Tom Farrell and Tom Farkas won two matches apiece, while Fred Pickles was defiant in defeat, winning three for Werneth.

In another re-arranged match, Werneth ‘F’ lost 9-1 to title-chasing Deaf ‘B’. Mike Briggs, Prakash Bhojani and Matt Garside were unbeaten for Deaf Club.

Alex Griffiths returned to form for Saddleworth CC ‘B’ with three wins against Gilders, but he couldn’t prevent a 6-4 defeat in the division three clash.

Unison ‘C’ posted a hard-fought 6-4 win at home to Honeywell ‘E’ — Brian Hall won three for the visitors — and Grotton ‘B’ were too strong for Coldhurst ‘B’. They won 9-1, with trebles from Steve Smith and Alan Sarsfield.

In division two, Uppermill ‘A’ overcame Hollinwood ‘C’ 6-4 with a maximum from Mark Simpson, and Droylsden defeated Hyde YMCA ‘B’ by the same scoreline, thanks to a treble from Miles Benjamin.

Hollinwood ‘C’ proved too strong for their ‘D’ team. They triumphed 9-1 with maximums from Nathan Buckley and Matty Evans.

The match in division one saw Saddleworth CC ‘A’ slump to a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Honeywell ‘A’, for whom Phil Myers and Simon Hardwick were unbeaten.
