Dunkerleys find drive-in force

GOLF: P AND S Dunkerley won Brookdale captain Derek Miller’s drive-in, a four-ball, better-ball Stableford, with 41 points.

Second were M Isaacs and D Cooper (40), ahead of P Lloyd and D Welsh (39) who beat R Rosengrove and S Naismith on a card play-off for third.

New president Mark Leigh’s competition was a four-man team Stableford which went to S Barlow, P Goulden, L McQuaid and S Price with 106 points.

D Jones, C Boyle, P Holt and C Renwick defeated R Rosengrove, S Naismith, P Wood and J Wilson on countback for second after both teams scored 102 points.


FATHER and son Rob and Chris Calow joined David Holme and Matthew Barlow to win CROMPTON and ROYTON’s team Stableford with 86 points.

Runners-up on 83 points were Andrew Bottomley, Dave Briddon, Steven Moores and Andrew Hirst.

Meanwhile, Crompton and Royton beat hosts High Legh 4-3 in the Manchester and District Alliance Foursomes.

Gordon Lamb and Paul Harrison (four and three), Gary McHugh and Eric Fryer (walk-over), Mick Gazey and Les Bithwell (two up) and Pete Baggiano and Pete Meggison (one up) emerged victorious.


MARTIN Heap and Rick Cotton teamed up to score 44 Stableford points and win the captain’s drive-in at SADDLEWORTH.

Runners-up with 43 points were Steve Dawson and Neil Bamford, who beat Andy Dunster and Nick Marner (third) and Alan Entwistle and Stuart Potts on a card play-off.


GRAHAM Pendleton (43 points) and Paul Donlan (40) won the first and second divisions of a singles’ Stableford at OLDHAM.

Mick Allen and Steve Ogden (59) won a four-ball, better-ball medal, while Mark Pownall and Mick Ganley (60) were runners-up, ahead of Mark Ruff and Mark Furnival (61).


JOHN Stockley and Steve Britt were the winning combination in Werneth’s captain’s drive-in.

The pair scored 43 Stableford points in the four-ball, better-ball competition to finish just ahead of Steve McNamara and John Suttie (42 pts), who beat brothers Nick and Chris Stanley on countback for the runners-up spot.


BLACKLEY’S final Pro’s Competition was won by Steve Murray, whose 43 Stableford points saw him home ahead of Alex Hampson (42) and Keith Neild (41).

The series as a whole was won by Andy Hampson (88 points), who finished ahead of Alex Hampson (65) and Mark Gill (62).

The Maniacs League was decided with the last putt on the last green on the last day!

Andy White and Andy Burton managed 24 points to edge out Chris Benton and Garry Baldwin, who were runners-up on 23.


JENNY Knight and Jean Barnes scored 24 Stableford points to win Saddleworth lady-captain’s drive-in, a four-ball better-ball competition over 12 holes.

But they needed a card play-off to record victory over runners-up Julie Ward and Muriel Makin.
