Ashton display nerves of steel

GOLF: ASHTON knocked Denton off the top of the Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ division with a 7-1 win.

But it could have been a different story as the home side edged three of the four matches on the last green with the other match halved.

Brookdale are again setting a hot pace in the ‘B’ division, and an 8-0 home win over Stamford put them one point ahead of Denton.

Crompton and Royton ‘A’ played their own ‘B’ team in the new team division and did not lose a game with two wins and two halves for a 6-2 success.

But the result of the night was Mike Shaw and Dave Holme, of the ‘A’ team, coming back from four down with seven to play to snatch a half.
