Stamford battlers limit the damage

GOLF: IAN Trow and Andy Earlham picked up an unlikely point in the clash between Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ division joint leaders Stamford and Ashton.

The Stamford pair came from five down to get a half against Gary Johnson and Tony Lambert, a vital point as the 5-3 home win for Ashton restricted their lead at the top to two.

Denton have jumped to the top of the ‘B’ division after a fantastic 8-0 win at Dukinfield.

Brookdale are within a point following a 5-3 win at Werneth, while Saddle-worth are on the same mark after getting three points in defeat at Oldham.

And it’s close in the ‘C’ division, too.

Four points cover the top four clubs, with Crompton and Royton slipping from top to joint third in their open-date week.
