OLDHAM St Anne’s got into their stride in National Conference League Division One, picking up their first points of the season thanks to a 30-16 home victory over Stanley Rangers.

In a game marred by an enormous penalty count — there were 20 awarded in the first half alone — Saints were always in control.

Jordan White and Kiel Lancashire controlled affairs in the halves while Phil Jagger — in his first game back at the club — and Simon Parrish excelled in a good pack performance.

“We played very well and our defensive work was excellent,” said Cashin, whose team banished memories of the previous week’s 40-26 loss at Oulton.

“It was something we had worked on all week. We shipped 40 points in the previous game against a very good Oulton side who are tipped for a strong season.

“So we worked on that side of the game and managed to come through to score some good tries as well.”

Danny Kay opened the scoring for the home team, Lancashire adding the extras and soon after Garry Rafferty was on the scoresheet with Lancashire again converting.

David Cookson’s try and a Lancashire goal made it 18-0 at the break.

Lancashire was then sin-binned for a professional foul and Stanley took advantage through Danny Gaunt.

Kay responded with his second, which was answered by Matty Firth’s try.

Lancashire’s penalty and a try for winger Dave Hewitt stretched Saints’ advantage, which was cut late on when Liam Crawley and John Gledhill went over.

WATERHEAD suffered from a slow start as Castleford Lock Lane came away with a 28-6 win in division Two.
Robbie Mawson’s try, converted by John Walton, was followed by a Mike Tomlinson effort which Walton embellished for a 12-0 half-time lead.

Craig Jones was next on the board for the visitors, Walton converting. Substitute Callum Leigh hit back with a try which was converted by hooker Sean Garrett, but Lock Lane were in again when Craig Donlan went over, Walton adding his fourth goal, before winger Jamie Cryer ended the scoring action with a fifth try.
