TABLE TENNIS:
BIRLEY Moss and Coldhurst ‘A’ had a ding-dong battle in Division Two of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
And Moss emerged victorious with a 6-4 scoreline after two big points from Simon Walsh had seen Coldhurst, in third place, race into a 4-2 lead.
Miles Benjamin was the star of the show for the eventual winners, securing a hat-trick to lead his side to a third win in four matches.
Meanwhile, Pennine picked up five valuable points at home to Deaf Club ‘A’.
Two sets apiece for Glen Chadwick and Steve Mather saw Pennine forge 4-2 clear, but David Varney and Ian Cockcroft levelled things up for Deaf Club.
Chadwick made it three on the night in a five-game thriller to edge Pennine in front again, only for Cockcroft and Liaqat Ali to come on top in another five-game marathon to tie the match.
In Division One, BAE recorded their eighth win of the campaign with a 9-1 victory at home to Honeywell ‘B’.
Saddleworth ‘A’ kept up their lead over BAE with a 6-4 win over Glodwick ‘B’.
