TAKE THAT . . . hard-hitting batsman Imran Khan will be hoping to produce more heroics for Friarmere.
SEMI-FINAL places are up for grabs on Sunday in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Twenty20 Competition.
Holders Heyside are at home to Greenfield, which offers them a chance to avenge last month’s Tanner Cup defeat. Back then Greenfield were at the start of a hot run of form, but have cooled off recently.
Heyside haven’t fired in July either, losing to Droylsden, Bamford Fieldhouse and Friarmere, laeving them third.
But this competition seems to bring out the best in the side and with Ben Holt, Nick Campbell, pro Gerrie Snyman and Danny Cashin in the ranks, they are well-equipped to progress.
In great heart from their narrow defeat of Heyside — they should have beaten Saddleworth seven days
earlier — Friarmere will be confident of booking a place on finals day when they go to basement boys Micklehurst.
The Slack Lane outfit possess a player at the top of his game in Imran Khan, who did more than his bit to help secure victory over Heyside with 89 runs and figures of seven for 70.
In the other last-eight matches, second-bottom Hollinwood entertain a Droylsden side on the up, while Shaw will look to keep their season going with victory over Tanner Cup finalists Moorside.
Shaw are previous winners of the T20 and in Phil Taylor and Joe Whitehead have two players capable of putting bat to ball.
Tomorrow’s league action sees leaders Bamford Fieldhouse go to Stayley, who have won two their last two fixtures. Glodwick, in second place after nine wins in their last 10 league games, welcome Hollinwood to Warren Lane.
