Jessica Lloyd — back on track
SWIMMING: DIGGLE’S teenage swimming star Jessica Lloyd has her eyes on individual glory in next summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
City of Manchester Aquatics ace Lloyd has admitted she was at a low ebb after last summer’s amazing London Olympics, where the freestyle relay team member was the youngest in the whole swimming squad.
A sinus infection ruled her out of this summer’s World Championships in Barcelona, but Lloyd (18), who is currently enjoying a part-time teaching assistant role at Waterhead Academy, is back training hard to make an impact in 2014.
She said: “After the Olympics, I struggled getting back in the water. It was such a massive summer and I didn’t want it to finish.
“A lot of people didn’t know my name before London and I don’t want it to be considered a fluke that I got on the team. I want to make sure my name is always at the top.
“I have focused on starting my year better than ever before.
“Because it’s the Commonwealth Games next year, I really want to be on that team and not just part of the relay squads.”
