ANGLING: THE Church Gardens open was another cracker, with Chris Durrant winning with his slider and pellet approach - which netted him 24 small carp weighing 31lb 8oz 4drams.

Graham Mitchell (Gilders GTI), meanwhile, caught 30lb of skimmers and roach, using maggot and pole for first place in the silvers’ match and second overall.

NO wonder the Tricast Highfield lads keep turning up for the Old Hough Farm opens; they are

dominating them on a regular basis.

James Cantello won the Thursday open match fished on Lucky Dip and Prospect Lakes where he dobbed bread and corn in the nearside margins to catch five carp for 14lb 1oz.

Pete Clements followed up a big win and a second place on Heronbrook with another second in this match, with 6lb 12oz of silvers caught on pole and maggot.

Tricast’s Dave Holland took the money in Saturday’s open at Old Hough, with his feeder and corn fished tight to an island netting him 32lb 5oz of carp.

Travelling partner Ken Power was second with 27lb 3oz of carp taken on straight lead and method feeder.

Ken Potts took first place in Sunday’s open at Old Hough as his open-ended feeder and maggot worked well for a mixed net weighing 33lb 2oz. Dave Holland was second with 31lb 14oz.

ROBERT Rigby (Gilders Tackle) won the Thursday Partridge Lakes open match in which he caught F1s and hybrids on pole-fished pellet and corn at 11 metres to weigh in 43lb 2oz.

Second was Tom Clarke with 40lb 15oz.

FRED Prudham (Medlock Bridge AC) came out on top in the Partridge Lakes open match fished on Covey Canal. His corn down the edge and later maggot at 10 metres approach saw him net 56lb 7oz.

Dave Rigby was a half a dozen fish short, taking second place with 47lb 11oz of carp taken on maggot fished at 10 metres.

Venue Guide

Denshaw Vale – Memberships available. Contact John on (0161) 665 1779 for details.

Dowry Reservoir – Day tickets available from Sheddings Angling.

Ogden Reservoir – Day tickets on the bank and at Tight Lines, Shaw. This vast water is still worth a chuck. Pegs behind the cottages always produce a few fish.

Strinesdale Reservoir – Day tickets on the bank. Full of fish and at this time of year you will probably have the water virtually to yourself. Pole and tip for skimmers, chub and roach. Big perch are in here, but not many come out so a chopped worm and feeder approach might tempt one of these.

Cargate Pool – Medlock Bridge AC members-only water. Rochdale Canal – Roach to bread punch on Boat and Horses length, with match catches to 6lb.

Bardsley Canal – Day tickets on the bank.

Alexandra Park Lake – Day tickets on the bank. Worth a cast or two as the weather isn’t freezing. Try pegs either side of the footbridge.

Hollingworth Lake – Day ticket water. Another big water where the fish can be anywhere. Pegs by the overflow can produce some decent nets at this time of the year. It’s all tip fishing with skimmers, roach and the odd big perch. Pikers can catch some decent fish by spinning, and a roving approach for this style of fishing is best.

Tanners Dam – Diggle AC members only. Fishing well with silvers falling to maggot fished on the pole and tip.

Peak Forest Canal – This relatively shallow canal is fishing hard at the moment, so pick your peg carefully and don’t overdo the feed.
