RUGBY:

A LATE try from Scott Owen sealed an excellent 26-22 success for Saddleworth Rangers at Millom in National Conference League Division One.

Victory in Cumbria is always one to savour, and Rangers’ superb effort was also thanks to tries from Adam Walker, Josh Bradbury, Chris Conway and Tom Robinson. Michael Coates kicked three goals.

Dan White, Lee Edmondson, Adam Kelly and Anthony Dixon replied for the Woollybacks, who thought they had earned a share of the spoils when Paul Evans landed his third goal late on.

But Rangers had the last laugh through Owen’s score.

WATERHEAD conceded eight tries as they slumped to a 44-4 defeat at home to Stanley Rangers in Division Two of the NCL.

Chris Hough’s side were on the wrong end of a 34-4 half-time deficit after poor defending allowed Jack Hogan (two), Danny Grice, John Nunns, Paul Hughes and Liam Crawley to go in. Grice kicked five goals.

Tom McMullen replied for the hosts before the break.

Waterhead proved a tougher nut to crack in the second period, with Crawley and Nunns only adding to Stanley’s tally. Grice improved one of the scores.

Hough and Sam Reynolds, of Waterhead, were both sin-binned during the contest.
