Avro 3, Springhead 1

FOOTBALL: THREE goals in the opening 15 minutes set Avro on the road to victory against Springhead in the Premier Division of the FBT Manchester League at the Lancaster Club.

Avro manager Rob Fuller still has an eye on the title now his side is only 10 points behind leaders and neighbours Royton Town, with FIVE games in hand.

Fuller said: “Mathematically it is still possible, so we will have to take one game at a time. We deserved the win and we shall see what the next few weeks bring.”

Disappointed Springhead manager Lee McAllister said: “We lost the game in that opening spell, we just didn’t start and we were very poor.”

Mike Barnes-Gott began the early rout with a smartly-taken angled drive after eight minutes, before the same player turned provider four minutes later when his low, driven cross was turned home from six yards by Vinny Howell.

It was soon 3-0 when Howell set up Alan Beckett for a one-on-one situation with the Springhead goalkeeper.

Springhead’s consolation goal came with five minutes to go when Leighton Stephenson converted a James Curley cross at the far post.
