Angling: TREVOR Wilson took top spot in the first of this year’s Socials AC matches on Tyle Lodge.

His maggot fished up in the water produced a cracking net of carp, bream, ide and roach that together weighed in at 23lb 2oz.

Dean Pickering (Tight Lines, Shaw) took second, with pellet and worm fished on the long pole accounting for 22lb 6oz of bream, ide and roach.

OLD Hough Farm fishery saw Mark Astbury (Widnes AC) win at his 20th attempt at the venue, netting 36lb 12oz of f1s and carp on method feeder and pellet.
Second was Jamie Davies (Matrix) with his pellet fished in the margins working well as he had a blank three hours before netting 29lb 15oz of carp and f1s.

TODMORDEN AS’s first away match of the year was at Cudmore Fishery, where they fished the arena lake, venue for the FISHOMANIA final.
All anglers enjoyed a great day’s fishing as the carp and f1s switched on. Winner was Danny Keegan with a tip and pellet approach working well for 64lb. Second-placed Rob McKendry was also using the tip and pellet, and again it was mainly carp that made up his 57lb 10oz catch, followed by Pete Fitton’s 45lb 10oz net which fell to the pole and clinched him a section win.

MY weekend’s fishing was in the last of the Wigan teams who featured in the Spring League, fished on an out-of-sorts Leeds and Liverpool Canal near Chorley.

Individual winner and league champion was Bolton-based Derek Walker, with his bread and caster fished down the track approach paid off with several bream and skimmers that added up to 7lb 5oz 11drams.

Second-placed Steve Rowley (Tri-Cast Rochdale Blue) also got among the bream and skimmers, finishing the match with 7lb 2oz 14oz.

Top teams were Tri-Cast Rochdale Blue with 17 points, in front of Maver Red and Hindley – both 23.

Overall, Maver Red led the way with 118 points, followed by Wasps on the same points; Maver edged it on weight. They were followed by Tri-Cast Rochdale Black.

My day was a grueller as one perch, one ruffe and 10 roach saw me weigh in just 7oz and finish in the bottom three in my 15-peg section.

I’ve struggled in this league, but have learned so much along the way.

The Huddersfield Broad Canal Spring League starts in a couple of weeks, so I might have a few chucks on there...
