FOOTBALL:

IN-form Wayne Welbeck scored twice for Mossley as they secured a superb 3-0 Evo-Stik League Division One North victory at Burscough.

The Lilywhites secured a first-ever win at Victoria Park, all their goals coming in a devastating seven-minute spell in the second half.

On the hour mark, Welbeck slid a shot home, then two minutes later Tom Dean lashed in to register his first Mossley goal. With the hosts still stunned, the Lilywhites made it 3-0 in the 67th minute as Welbeck latched on to a Brian Matthews through-ball before slotting past keeper Tim Horn.

Charlie Anderson almost scored a fourth goal late on as his free-kick just cleared the crossbar.

MOSSLEY’S longest-serving fan and volunteer Kath Field has won the Evo-Stik League Supporter of the Year award.

Kath was handed the trophy by Latics legend Joe Royle at a special ceremony.

Lifelong Lilywhite Kath (81) first went to a game with her grandmother when she was seven.

An outstanding volunteer, an outstanding fan and an outstanding person, her 75 years of passionate support has been rewarded.

Kath’s late husband Brian was also a long-term volunteer at Seel Park and club committee member, while Kath has spent many hours painting around the ground and doing other vital jobs, from washing kit to working in the pie hut.

She still helps out at the club when she can, despite recent ill health.

IN the North-West Counties League First Division, Oldham Boro secured only their second win of 2014, 3-2 at AFC Darwen.

Lee Knowles scored twice, while Nathan Adams wrapped up a hugely welcome victory for Boro, who remain in 15th place in the table.

Chadderton were without a fixture.
