RUGBY:

A TERRIFIC first-half display saw Saddleworth Rangers blow away Dewsbury Celtic in Division One of the Kingstone Press National Conference League.

The hosts scored 30 unanswered points before Tony Dunford put Celtic on the board with a try.

But there was no stopping Rangers, who put the game to bed with two further tries in a 40-14 victory.

Dale Lowe put Shane Tupaea’s side in front after only three minutes.

It was soon one-way traffic as Matt Fogarty, Gareth Morgan, Dave Hewitt and Jonny Horton went over in a breathtaking first 34 minutes.

Michael Coates kicked all five conversions in a stunning start from the home side.

Dunford replied a minute before the break, and Mike Foulstone dived in just after restart to double Celtic’s tally. Pat Foulstone converted.

Thom Halloran scored the visitors’ third try three minutes later to reduce the Rangers advantage to 16 points.

But once Hewitt had scored his second try of the afternoon in the 70th minute — Coates added the extras — Rangers were home and dry.

It was left to Horton to wrap up the scoring with his second try of the afternoon.
