Miserable Easter for Lilywhites

Non-league football: BACK-to-back Evo-Stik League Division One North defeats gave Mossley a miserable Easter.

Yesterday the Lilywhites were crushed 5-1 at Bamber Bridge.

Mossley were already 4-0 down when leading scorer Dougie Carroll pounced to strike the visitors’ consolation goal.

The Lilywhites were unlucky as they were beaten 2-1 at home by a very physical Ossett Town side on Saturday. It was totally against the run of play when Town skipper Steve Jeff put his side in front from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

The Lilywhites equalised just three minutes later as Lewis Nightingale fired home, but they were to be punished for missing too many chances throughout the game when Chris Wood won it for the visitors in the 84th minute.

IT proved to be a dismal Easter Monday for Chadderton and Oldham Boro in the North-West Counties League First Division.

Chaddy were in action away at Irlam, with the hosts prevailing 3-1 thanks to strikes from Adam Campbell (two) and Gareth Mooney.

Clive Best scored for Chaddy midway through the second half, at that point halving the deficit.

Boro were thumped 6-1 at Leek CSOB.

On target for the Old Boys were Ashley Thompson (three), George Pauley (two) and Oliver Mellor.

Kyle Jackson bagged Boro’s consolation in the second half, on a day when they had found themselves 4-0 down after just half an hour.

Chadderton won the derby fixture at Boro on Saturday in dramatic fashion.

All three local sides complete their 2013-14 campaigns this weekend.
