CRICKET: ATIQ Ur Rehman threw his gloves to a team-mate and bowled Friarmere to a shock victory over Moorside in the Pro Elite Sports Twenty20 Competition.
Ur Rehman started the evening behind the stumps, but was later brought on to bowl and claimed three for seven as the home side beat the Saddleworth Cricket League title hopefuls and last year’s losing finalists by nine runs.
There were plenty of fireworks at Little Hey Street, where Stayley professional Kamran Hussain’s brilliant 133 not out was to no avail against holders and current league champions Heyside.
Paid man Shadley van Schalkwyk struck 88 and skipper Ryan Barnes an unbeaten 56 in reply for the hosts, who successfully chased down 208 for three with six wickets and nine balls to spare.
The tie between Micklehurst and Uppermill at Castle Lane was reduced to 15 overs per side after no official umpires turned up.
When the match got underway half an hour late - a representative from each side took charge - Uppermill won by seven wickets.
