WERNETH ‘A’ have put themselves back in the Oldham and District Golf League play-off picture after an 8-0 victory over Fairfield.

And with East Division pacesetters Stamford losing top spot after a 6-2 defeat at Blackley, Werneth could yet get among the top two if they can win their two games in hand, both of which are at home.

The ‘A’ West Division is now incredibly tight with a single point covering the top four sides.

The big movers were Ashton with an 8-0 home win against Oldham.

Brookdale managed to secure three points in defeat at Denton, while Dukinfield will have been disappointed to be held to a draw at home to North Manchester.

In the ‘B’ Section East, Crompton and Royton won 5-3 at Saddleworth with a last-green birdie four clinching a half for Steve Oldham and his partner Gary McHugh to secure the away success.

But Landy Wild’s team are now only two points clear in second as Stamford continued their late bid by beating runaway leaders Blackley 6-2.

One further back are Fairfield, who were restricted to a narrow 5-3 home win by Werneth.

In ‘B’ West, Oldham’s impressive return to the fold this season continued as they beat leaders Ashton 6-2. Their games in hand could yet prove crucial.

Many of those game are being played this week, along with the cup semi-finals.

‘A’ Cup: Brookdale v Werneth at Ashton; Dukinfield v Ashton at Blackley.

‘B’ Cup: Werneth v Fairfield at Denton; Denton v Blackley at Fairfield.
