Title is almost in Glodwick hands

Date published: 18 July 2014

CLEAR by some 49 points with a dozen games left, it is very much Glodwick’s Saddleworth and District Cricket League title to lose.

Trying to keep tabs on the high-fliers are Brian Lord’s Saddleworth side, which have channelled the hurt of Tanner Cup semi-final defeat into posting consecutive wins.

In fact, the Well-i-Hole club are unbeaten in the league since June 14. That’s impressive stuff. However, they must maintain this run of form otherwise the championship race could be over before August is consigned to history.

With a home match against Whalley Range tomorrow — the visitors are trying to stave off a third loss on the spin — and a trip to basement boys South West Manchester on Sunday, Saddleworth should remain in view, albeit a long-range one, of Glodwick.

The leaders’ tasks this weekend are no easy ones.

Uppermill, in third place and the only team to beat Glodwick in the league in 2014, play host to Nigel Stock’s men tomorrow.
