Super Ryan’s Lord of the manor

Date published: 25 July 2014

RYAN Lord pounced for a hat-trick of tries as in-form Saddleworth Rangers under-11s ran out easy 46-0 victors against Westhoughton Lions.

Gabriel Payne opened the scoring for in-form Rangers, running straight through the Lions’ defence from the kick-off.

Lord’s conversion added to the scoreline.

Two brilliant lay-offs from Mason Young and Ellis Barnes put Tommy Jackson in the clear, and his pace took him over the line.

Strong defending across the line kept the Lions at bay and Rangers never looked like conceding anything.

An excellent interception from Lord stopped a Westhoughton attack and he ran in a great try.

Further tries from Joe Howe and another from Lord brought the half to a close, with Sam Watson’s conversion the last action before the break.

The second half opened in much the same way as the first with Rangers’ first attack ending with a score.

This time the ball went to Charlie McManus, who dodged a couple of tackles before getting the ball across the line.

A period of mistakes from the Rangers attack resulted in a number of knock-ons, putting paid to any attacking chances, before Lennon Bourne out-paced the whole field to run in a superb try.

Another flight down the wing a couple of minutes later added to Bourne’s personal tally and further increased the Rangers lead.

The game was brought to a close by Lord, who weaved through the Lions defence and scored an individual try.
