Mayfield eyeing Lord’s final date
Date published: 25 July 2014
MAYFIELD Primary School’s talented mixed ECB Kwik Cricket team are the champions of Lancashire.
The eight-strong team of four boys and four girls secured their place at the regional finals at Longridge Cricket Club near Preston after winning the Oldham tournament in convincing style.
Once at Longridge, the Mayfield team were up against rivals from 15 Lancashire areas.
Teams were split into three qualifying groups, with Mayfield winning theirs to set up a semi-final against Burnley’s representatives.
Mayfield won that, then in the final cruised to a big victory against the school team representing Leigh.
Mayfield batted first, scoring 131 for three, before bowling out their opponents for just 38 to book a spot at the national Kwik Cricket finals.
Now, Mayfield School’s Mark Holmes is hoping that he, his fellow PE teacher Sean Sinkler, and his team get the chance to play at the home of cricket, Lord’s.
Mark said: “We’ve been told the national finals might be taking place at Lord’s, but the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) haven’t decided on that yet.”
