A TERRIFIC second round of 61 from Cliff Butler clinched the Clegg Cup at Oldham.

He opened with a 63 for an overall total of 124.

A shot adrift was Wayne Adamson (63+62=125), with Owen Williams (66+62=128) in third spot.

The lowest round on the second day was recorded by Paul Donlan with a superb 60.

Simon Halliwell picked up the Captain’s Trophy at SADDLEWORTH.

It was contested over 18 holes instead of the usual 36 after rain washed out round one.

Halliwell, after shooting a 73 -6-67, won on a card play-off from Dean Jagger (72-5-67), with Steve Pullen (71-3-68) next best.

The captain’s “Big Weekend’, proved popular, with a barbecue and family entertainment, including a bouncy castle and coconut shy.

The long drive competition was fiercely contested. Lee Melia led the way, smashing the ball 299 yards, from Eddie Mills (297yds) and Ben Simpson (295yds).

BROOKDALE staged their annual ‘British Open’ event, where a member’s score is added to that of a professional’s on the final day.

Pros’ names are drawn out of a hat, and the winner was Steve Todd, who had a nett 60 to go with South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen’s 72 for a 132 total.

He won on a card play-off from Andy Walsh (nett 66 and Sergio Garcia 66), with Richard Hanley (nett 61 and Kevin Na 74) in third place with 135.
